MATCH REPORT Ladies 1 vs Windsor 2
This week, the L1s travelled to Easton — a place many players dreaded revisiting!
However, team spirits were high, and any negativity was brushed aside with a strong team talk.
The starting whistle blew, and before anyone could think, Ellie hot-stepped her way through the bulk of the grey opposition, firing the ball towards goal. Charlotte was right behind her shoulder to pick up the rebound and slot it into the bottom corner, making it 1–0 to the Wanderers just one minute into the game!
With the wind in our sails, it was clear Thursday’s training had paid off — anticipation and opportunity were the words of the day. With that in mind, Julie picked up a through ball from Easty, miles inside the D, and smashed a second past the keeper to give us a 2–0 advantage in under ten minutes.
Windsor retaliated quickly, forcing some Matrix-style dodging from the backline and slipping one in as the players waited for the whistle.
The game tempo started to settle. Windsor began to apply some pressure, but the Wanderers knew they were in control.
With a short corner set up in our favour, Amber took the opportunity to force the ball through on goal after a slick rebound pick-up, making it 3–1 to the Wanderers before half-time.
As the second-half whistle blew, it was clear Windsor had found their feet. They began to press hard, stepping to the ball and driving forward until they managed to find a second goal.
With our advantage in mind, brains were switched back on, and possession fell back into the Wanderers’ court.
Julie found herself perfectly placed in the D again, latching onto a long ball from Steph to nudge it towards goal — just enough to slip over the line!
With under ten minutes to go, the Wanderers were hungry for more. A crafty short corner to Easton gave her the perfect opportunity to smash the ball into the bottom corner, sealing the final score at 5–2 to Wootton.
Once again, despite a much-changed lineup from the previous two weeks, the L1s maintained their quality — which looks to be the defining difference in this season’s squad.
