MATCH REPORT Ladies 2 vs Wychwood 1

A chilly midday pushback marked Woottons first home game in a while, and despite the rain-soaked warm-up, the girls hit the pitch determined to bounce back after recent defeats.

Captain Chloe set the tone with an inspiring team talk, and from the first whistle Wootton showed composure, skill and smart movement across the pitch. Jess earned the first short corner of the game, but the breakthrough just wouldn’t come. Strong triangle play from Kat, Rach, Azaria and Fran pushed Wootton forward again, yet the final touch proved elusive.

Half-time arrived at 0–0, with everything still to play for.

As the wind picked up, Wootton dug deep, but a deflection from a well-worked Wychwood attack saw the visitors take the lead. Despite resilient defending and more positive passages of play, Wychwood converted another short corner to make it 2–0. Both sides battled right to the end, but the scoreline didn’t fall Woottons way this week.

Huge thanks to the umpires for making the game possible.

The girls regroup and go again next Saturday as they welcome Abingdon to the Shire.

MATCH REPORT Ladies 3 vs Leighton Buzzard 3

Ladies 3s faced Leighton Buzzard, eager to showcase their skills despite the difficult conditions. The girls started the match with a positive mindset, ready to take on their opponents. However, Leighton Buzzard quickly switched on and scored three goals in rapid succession, putting Wootton on the back foot early in the game.

Despite the early setbacks, the Wootton forwards demonstrated remarkable teamwork, making excellent runs down to the baseline and creating several attacking opportunities. Unfortunately, they were unlucky not to convert any of these chances into goals. As the rain intensified, so too did Leighton’s performance, and they ended the first half with a score of 8-0.

The halftime break provided a crucial moment for the team, allowing for a strong team talk and the implementation of tactical adjustments. Renewed and refocused, the girls returned to the pitch for the second half, looking highly promising. They started strong, breaking into the D multiple times and generating several scoring opportunities.

Despite their efforts, Leighton continued their pressure and, after a series of short corners, finally converted one to increase their lead. However, Wootton refused to let their heads drop. The team tightened up on defense, improving their marking, space finding, and passing. The defenders made some excellent goal line saves, standing out with their commitment and skill.

In the final moments of the match, Leighton scored once more, ensuring the game ended with a score of 10-0. Despite the challenging conditions and the final scoreline, Wootton’s second half performance was significantly stronger, reflecting their resilience and determination.

For her outstanding defensive play, Darcey was awarded Man of the Match for the second consecutive week.

MATCH REPORT Ladies 2 vs Witney 3

An early morning pushback in a very wet Witney set the tone for a tough game.

Despite the rain rolling in during warm-up, the Wootton girls were eager and focused after a great team talk from Bec and Chloe.

With only the bare 11, everyone knew it would be a challenge, but the girls started strong. From the whistle, both teams were hungry for goals, creating some really promising passages of play. Wootton had their chances but couldn’t quite find the backboard, and Witney took the lead from a short corner.

A motivating half-time chat pushed the girls to come out firing again in the second half. The rain got heavier and frustration grew, but Wootton kept battling right to the final whistle. Despite the effort, it wasn’t meant to be, and the game ended 3–0 to Witney.

A tough result, but a huge shift from every player, Roll on next week.

MATCH REPORT Ladies 1 vs Wycombe 2

The L1s were back to full strength on Saturday, travelling away to Wycombe on a chilly afternoon. There were positive attitudes all around — in relation to the hockey at least.

From the start, we could see Wycombe had some strong players, ready to mark their territory and show their strength, and with a quick attack they secured the first goal four minutes into the game. We didn’t let that knock us and kept our heads high.

Much to nobody’s surprise, Ellie did a long run through the pitch to set us up for a short corner. With Sophie on top, she banged the ball through the keeper to give us the leveller. This lit the flame we needed to bring some oomph to the game. Sophie picked up a through ball, left her defender behind and tipped it through to Julie at the top of the D. A one-touch control and a smash at goal gave us the second of the game.

Wycombe were able to bring the game level by half-time, outnumbering us in our own defence.

The positive attitude stayed with us through half-time and into the second half. With Sophie now getting a taste for goals again, she picked up the ball mid-D, rolled out to lose her defender and banged a second past the keeper.

With a very even game came a third goal for Wycombe — but Sophie wasn’t done yet!

With the defence working hard to dispatch any more goal attempts, and the midfield working tirelessly to get the ball up top, Sophie found herself with the ball just outside the 25. She battled her way to the top of the D and hammered it into the net to give herself a hat-trick and the team the 4–3 win.

MOM this week was Abby, who — after a game or two away — showed her excellence at the back.

Match Report – Ladies 3 vs Thame 3

MATCH REPORT Ladies 3 vs Thame 3

The ladies 3s faced off against Thame at home after storm claudia had made the pitch a lovely playing condition!


Coach Amie led the team through their positions, which ignited a spark that fuelled the girl’s passion and drive for the game.


From the first whistle, the girls looked strong and cohesive as they started the game, effectively transferring the ball around the back and passing in small triangles.


It wasn’t until the 14th minute that Thame struck the backboard to take the lead. Following that, they earnt a series of penalty corners and on their 4th attempt, converted it to extend their lead. The visitors managed to score 3 more goals before half time.


In the second half, Wootton focused less on the score and turned their priorities to listening to Amie, working together and staying positive.
Thame continued to apply pressure, finding the net for two more goals.
Despite the scoreline, Wootton began to create some attacking chances with three close opportunities arising from excellent midfield play that connected well with the forwards. The girls made some lovely drives down the wings to penetrate the D, but unfortunately they couldn’t convert their chances.


In the final 10 minutes of the match, Thame scored their last three goals, bringing the final score to 0-10 in favour of the visitors.
With a lot to take away, the girls focused on the positives, with a renewed sense of improvement in their personal performances.

Next week sees the girls travel to Leighton Buzzard where they hope to bounce back and implement their training into their game.

Match Report – Ladies 1 vs South Berkshire 2

MATCH REPORT Ladies 1 vs South Berkshire 2

The L1s had to draw on its squad once again this week as they faced South Berkshire at home, meaning another heavily change match day team and unfortunately, this was quite obvious from the starting whistle as we were not ready for this weeks visitors.

The away team were constantly in our half from the get go! Their quick players were always first to the ball and put pressure on our defence relentlessly! The Wanderers managed to keep them from scoring until the 29th minute, when a shot towards a cluster of sticks found a deflection into the goal.

This lit a fire, and something clicked in the forward line. Ellie’s burners switched on, and she legged it through a barrage of white shirts to the oppo’s D shortly followed by Julie who on receiving the ball won a short corner. From this, Julie took a simple hit from the top of the D to give us the equaliser just before half-time.

The second half started stronger — the burners stayed on and possession became more even. South Berks regained the lead from a hard-fought short corner, but this only kept our drive high. With end-to-end play, another short corner came our way. Julie’s first shot was stopped, but Sophie loomed up top to bang in the deflection without controlling it first.

The game was now 2–2. Emotions started to rise and both teams fought to the end — tackles became choppy and bodies were being thrown around. The final whistle blew as Steph kept the ball in the corner to run down the last few minutes.

MATCH REPORT Ladies 2 vs Banbury 2

Match Report | Wootton vs Banbury | Final Score: 3-1 Wootton

Early pushback away at Banbury but the girls arrived ready, focused, and full of fire. After observing a respectful minute’s silence to remember the fallen, it was game on.

Wootton came out flying. Within the first three minutes, some lovely link-up play through midfield saw Jodie calmly slot the ball past the keeper to put us 1-0 up. The girls wanted more, and the pressure didn’t stop.

Half time came with captain Chloe rallying the squad, making it clear one goal wasn’t enough.

The second half saw some great teamwork and confident passing. Azaria doubled the lead with a slick reverse finish, before Evelyn added a third to make it 3-0. Banbury pulled one back from a well-worked short corner routine, but the game was firmly in Wootton’s hands to the final whistle.

On an early saturday morning, the Ladies 3s travelled to Oxford for an early pushback of 10am. The team had many focuses in mind with an aim to implement their strategies into the game.


The match began with Wootton showcasing fluid passing. However 3 minutes into the game oxford executed a penalty corner, taking an early lead. Wootton quickly switched to a defensive setup, working hard to fend off Oxford’s relentless attacks.
Despite their best efforts, oxford scored 3 goals in quick succession. The home sides pressure began to mount but Wootton got up the pitch and earned a penalty corner but they were unable to convert. just before half time.


Oxford struck again to bring the score to 5-0 at half time. The second half saw the girls regroup and renewed determination and energy.
They focused on teamwork and letting the ball do the work as they pushed forward.


Despite some promising attacks, oxford managed to find a break, scoring their 6th of the match.


Wootton tightened their defence, showing resilience a fighting spirits. They continued to create chances but when met with a strong opposition, Oxford found their 8th and final goal of the match, sealing the score at 8-0 for the home side.

MATCH REPORT Ladies 2 vs Oxford 5

An afternoon pushback in Oxford meant the girls were ready and raring to go! From the first whistle, Wootton came out flying , linking up beautifully, making some great runs, and playing some good hockey.

Early pressure earned us our first PC of the game with a cracking strike from Fran that just missed the post. Oxford then found their groove, putting together some tidy passages of play and managing to sneak the first goal of the match.

Half-time came, and skipper Chloe’s team talk had the girls fired up and hungry for that equaliser. The second half started just as strong, chances kept coming, the rain started pouring and the girls fought right to the final whistle. Despite all the hard work and battling spirit, the backboard wasn’t found.

Match Report – Ladies 1 vs Yateley 1

MATCH REPORT Ladies 1 vs Yateley 1

The L1s welcomed Yateley at home this week, after presenting our lovely assistant manager, Donna, with her new dry robe for all her brilliant help alongside TB.

This must have brought us good luck, as Wootton showed dominance early in the game. A quick push up the pitch and an early short corner gave Witts the opportunity to neatly deflect Julie’s shot into the goal for the 1–0 advantage.

Yateley were quick to respond, putting on the pressure, and after a scramble at the back managed to slot one in themselves for the equaliser.

The Wanderers kept pushing, making multiple entries into the D. Sophie made a run across the D, dancing around defenders and drifting wider and wider into the “no shooting” zone—only to prove us all wrong by firing the ball in from a narrow angle.

After half-time, Wootton were once again quick to press towards Yateley’s D. Another short corner saw a quick tap-in routine, but this time Sophie sent a powerful shot towards young Emily, who converted it for the goal.

The remainder of the game was end-to-end. Wootton continued to push players up the pitch to extend their lead, but Yateley countered with a strong offensive spell and, using a heavy overload, managed to score their second.

The final score ended 3–2 to the Wanderers, who will keep riding their winning high into next week’s fixture against new side South Berkshire.
