MATCH REPORT Ladies 3 vs Banbury 3
The Ladies 3s stepped out to face Banbury in a tough match. The girls knew it would be difficult but did not let that get to them. From the outset, Wootton looked concise and confident in their positions and were dedicated to putting 100% effort in constantly.
Banbury struck first to open the scoreboard as a slight confusion in marking led to a player free to tap in at the back post leaving wanderers trailing early on. The game turned very defensive with wanderers having to showcase their defensive work in attempts to keep Banbury at bay. However, their talent shone when they scored 2 more goals in quick succession to increase their lead to 3-0.
The midfield for Wootton worked tirelessly to drive the ball up the pitch to hopefully break into the attacking 23. A penalty flick was awarded to Banbury but Sarah stepped up and denied them their fourth which sparked motivation for Wanderers to get a goal back. However, Banbury upped their intensity and scored 3 more goals to bring the score at half time to 6-0 to Banbury.
With a heavy backfoot, the Ladies 3s determination still stood strong and every player worked tirelessly when defending and transferring the ball to attack. The midfield and forwards managed to break away many times to attack down the wings which lead to some impressive passages of play which looked promising down to goal. Sarah stepped up again to save another penalty flick to show them her skills.
However It was to be for Banbury who scored a further 3 goals in the second half to bring the final score to 9-0 defeat for Wanderers. Not the scoreline they would have hoped for but there is a lot to be taken away from the game, but the main positive of the efforts and attitudes were commendable from every player, leaving the team spirits and morale high.
