MATCH REPORT Ladies 3 vs Oxford Hawks 6

The ladies 3s kicked off their leauge campaign with a challenging encounter against Oxford Hawks.


From the outset, it was clear that hawks were a well drilled team. Just a couple minutes into the match, they struck first taking an early lead.
Wootton recognised the defensive nature of the game and despite the setback showed determination.
However, hawks capitalised on their momentum scoring 2 goals in quick succession putting wootton at a 3-0 disadvantage.
Despite falling behind, the girls refused to let their heads drop as they worked hard to defend against the relentless oxford attacks.
Wootton managed to get some quick breaks through midfield down to the attacking circle which allowed for a couple shots on goal.


As the first half progressed, oxford contained to apply pressure and scored 2 more well coordinated goals before half time leaving the score at 5-0.
Half time saw a change in formation. Wootton’s defence worked tirelessly, clearing balls to midfield in an attempt to regain control of the game.
However Hawks maintained their dominance and quickly added more goals to their tally.


Despite the scoreline, the morale of the team remained high and everyone showed commendable spirit and teamwork, supporting one another.
In the end, the full time whistle blew and the match finished with a 9-0 score in favour of Oxford Hawks.

Match Report – Ladies 3 vs Enigma 1

MATCH REPORT Ladies 3 vs Enigma 1

Wootton ladies 3s continued to dominate the league with a 6-1 victory over Enigma 1s.

In what was a very physical match Wootton took the lead early after Julie dribbled past the enigma defence before slotting the ball home at close range. Julie’s second came soon after when Lily-Mays perfectly placed through ball made it through to her at the top of the circle to finish with a strong hit past enigmas helpless keeper.

Enigma worked hard to get on the score sheet and did just before half time with a scrappy goal. The match was 2-1 at half time.

In the second half despite persistent fouling from the enigma team, Wootton battled hard and Julie scored again from the top of the circle before Trudy got onto the scoresheet with a well finished first time goal after a cross from the hard working Jodie.

Julie scored another with a lifted shot after dribbling past defenders and then scored the final goal of the game in the last play of the match when she pounced on the poor clearance at a short corner and slotted home.

Player of the match was Julie but this was a true team performance.

Match Report – Ladies 3 vs Kidlington 1

MATCH REPORT Ladies 3 vs Kidlington 1

The L3s played away against Kidlington after winning the league the week before. It was a tough, evenly matched game.

The first goal went to wootton when Mandy took a free hit to Sophie who was running down the wing, Sophie found Julie with a pass into the circle and Julie slotted the ball home.

Kidlington equalised before half time, after some strong attacking play.

After the break Julie scored another from close range after Amy found her with a pass after some skilful play in the circle.

Kidlington then scored two from contentious short corners which made Wootton even more determined not to be beaten.

With minutes to go Julie smashed a shot high into the goal and levelled the match.

Player of the match was Amy for an excellent all round game in midfield.

Match Report – Ladies 3 vs Banbury 3

MATCH REPORT Ladies 3 vs Banbury 3

Wootton ladies 3s welcomed Banbury 3s on a cold and wet afternoon.

The match was evenly matched early on with both teams battling hard. The breakthrough for Wootton came when a quick free hit was taken by Amy, who passed to Sophie on the wing, she slotted the ball through to Julie in the circle who neatly finished into the bottom corner.

The second goal came when another quickly taken free hit was passed to Julie who turned her defender and powered into the circle before smashing the ball into the goal.

At half time it was 2-0 to Wootton.

In a hard fought second half it took a short corner for Wootton to get their third and final goal, Julie struck the ball hard and Amy was there with a beautiful deflection giving the Banbury keeper no chance as the ball flew past her.

The game finished 3-0 to Wootton, player of the match was Jodie for her tireless work in midfield.

Match Report – Ladies 3 vs Abingdon 2

MATCH REPORT Ladies 3 vs Abingdon 2

Wootton ladies 3s welcomed Abingdon 2s for a top of the table clash. Wootton knew this game was going to be tough and set out to be disciplined and resolute from the start.

The first half was evenly matched with Abingdon trying to create chances but struggling to break down a solid defensive display from Wootton, the first goal of the game came from Wootton’s 1st penalty corner, another well worked set piece was swiftly and accurately dragged out by Amy, allowing Julie time to place a firmly struck shot into the bottom corner.


Abingdon managed to equalise before halftime though, when some good play down the wing led to a firm strike in goal which couldn’t be stopped.
In the second half Abingdon tried to press home their advantage of having substitutes to test Wootton’s fitness and defensive discipline but with Wootton putting pressure on the Abingdon defence, a mistake on a pass back was pounced upon by Julie who was able to use her pace to run into the circle and beat a defender before, lifting the ball on her reverse over the outrushing keeper.


Having regained the lead wootton were determined not to let it slip and worked hard until the final whistle, in what was a fantastic, organised display which leaves them top of the league.


Bec won man of the match for her work rate an excellent tackles, playing against a strong and quick attacking team down her side of the pitch.

Match Report – Ladies 3 vs Enigma 1

MATCH REPORT Ladies 3 vs Enigma 1

Wootton ladies 3s travelled to Milton Keynes in awful weather to play Enigma 1s.
The game started well for Wootton with Julie scoring two goals within the first 10 minutes, one after rounding several players in the circle before confidently finishing through the keepers legs, the second a firm reverse stick strike.


With their aggressive play Enigma got one back with their first attempt of the game, a shot from just inside the circle.


Julie got the lead back up to two ahead when she finished with a shot high into the net.


Enigma managed to score a scrappy goal shortly before a head injury to the brave Trudy ended the first half early, and as the icy rain poured she went to hospital leaving the rest of the team to dig in, in a game full of fouls.


Julie sealed the points for Wootton with her fourth with an excellent team goal, a quick free hit was played by Jodie to Hayley who passed it first time into the circle for Julie to finish first time low into the corner.


Hayley and Jodie shared player of the match but everyone gave their all in horrible conditions.

MATCH REPORT Ladies 3 vs Wychwood 2

Wootton ladies 3s travelled to Wychwood and played an experienced, well organised team.


Wootton took the lead after Jodie played the ball into Amy, who took a deft touch to beat the defender before finishing the ball on the half volley, lifting it past the Wychwood keeper.


The second Wootton goal came when Julie intercepted a pass at the back and drove into the circle, smashing the ball low into the bottom corner of the goal.
Wychwood hit back before half time, with a finish from close range.


Wootton started the second half strong and scored with their first attack when Julie drove down the wing starting in her own half, and passed the ball on their reverse to Jodie who took an excellent touch before decisively striking it into the goal past the outrushing keeper.


Wychwood were defending well and it took a short corner for Wootton to get their next goal, a firm drag out from Amy was lifted and powered into the bottom corner by Julie, giving the defender on the line no chance of stopping it.


Wychwood got another scrappy goal back but Wootton confirmed all three points scoring with another short corner, this time Julie struck the ball firmly into the other corner of the goal past the helpless goalie.
Wootton won 5-2 and stay top of the table.

MATCH REPORT Ladies 2 vs Ladies 3

On a chilly Saturday morning, the Wootton ladies 2s faced off against the Ladies 3s in their first game back after a long spell of frozen pitches.
From pushback, the ladies 2s asserted their dominance on the field. Their feisty attitude and strong teamwork led to numerous scoring opportunities. Wootton quickly earned a series of penalty corners during which they were awarded a penalty flick. However, this was expertly saved by the keeper.


Not to be deterred, Wootton showcased their skill and determination shortly after. A brilliant run from Carmen saw her navigate her way through the defence and find the top of the D, where she unleashed a powerful shot into the goal, putting the girls ahead 1-0.


At the other end of the pitch, Wootton displayed impressive man-to-man marking and displayed solid defensive clearances ensuring the girls maintained their lead at half time.


During the break, Amie’s inspiring and motivational team talk reignited the girl’s spirits for the second half. They returned to the field with their team morale at an all time high.


The link-up play was impressive, with some remarkable runs down the wings allowing for seamless transfers out wide then into the D, resulting in several chances on goal.


Despite the efforts, Wootton were unlucky not to extend their lead, hitting the post twice.


The Ladies 3s soon mounted fierce attacks, but Wootton’s backline remained solid and resolute, ensuring the goal was kept clean.
Another round of penalty corners was awarded to the girls, showcasing some clever ideas and routines, but missing the mark by a narrow margin.
As the final whistle blew, the match concluded with a hard fought 1-0 victory for the Ladies 2s. It was a long, but thoroughly enjoyable match characterised by teamwork and dedication.

Wootton ladies 3s took on Kidlington 1s in a hard fought match.


Wootton took the lead early with a well-worked penalty corner. Amy superbly deflected the ball into the net, leaving the opposition stunned.

Wootton’s next came soon after when Sally’s quick thinking saw her take an early free hit to Jodie, who raced down the wing and crossed the ball into the circle for Julie to lift into the net over the helpless Kidlington keeper.


Wootton went into halftime with a deserved 2-0 lead.


Kidlington came out for the second half with a new determination and this paid off with them scoring two quick goals, Wootton battled hard but Kidlington were playing well and took the lead with another nice finish.


At 3-2 down Wootton could easily have been deflated but no sooner had Kidlington taken the lead, Julie reacted quickest when Sallys ball into the circle hit the post, and she lifted the ball over the keeper to get Wootton back into the game.


Both teams had given everything and it looked like the points would be shared but after dogged battling in the circle in the last minute, Lily-May won Wootton a penalty corner and Julie’s powerful strike into the bottom corner won the game with the last hit of the match!

Match Report – Ladies 3 vs Leighton Buzzard 3 – A Top of the League Thriller

MATCH REPORT Ladies 3 vs Leighton Buzzard 3 - A Top of the League Thriller

A chilly but sunny Saturday lunchtime saw Wootton Wanderers 3s face off against Leighton Buzzard 3s in a highly anticipated top-of-the-table clash. Both teams were tied on points, and it was clear from the first whistle that this was going to be a game full of intensity and competitive spirit.

The action kicked off early, with Wootton taking the lead from a well-executed short corner. Julie, cool as ever under pressure, sent the ball straight into the net to make it 1-0. A quick break soon followed, with Lily May feeding a perfectly timed pass to Jodie, who finished the move in style, doubling the lead to 2-0.

Just when it seemed like Wootton were settling in, Julie wasn’t done yet. From the top of the circle, she unleashed a thunderous hit that flew past the goalkeeper, making it 3-0. Leighton Buzzard were struggling to cope with Wootton’s fast-paced play and clinical finishing.

The fourth goal came just before half-time, when Julie intercepted a pass, sprinted forward, and squared the ball back to Jodie, who made no mistake in completing the move. 4-0 at the break, and Wootton were in full control.

Special mention goes to Jodie, who was deservedly named Man of the Match for her relentless work rate and solid performance on the right wing. Trudy also deserves a shout-out for her toughness after taking a few knocks but never letting it faze her. Her resilience helped keep the midfield strong throughout.

In the second half, Wootton continued to dictate the game, with Leighton Buzzard unable to break through their solid defence. The Wanderers kept their shape, played patient hockey, and most importantly, didn’t let their guard down, ensuring that the scoreline remained unchanged.

Final score: Wootton Wanderers 3s 4, Leighton Buzzard 3s 0.

A fantastic team performance, another clean sheet, and a well-earned three points as Wootton continue their strong push for the top spot!
