MATCH REPORT M2 vs Milton Keynes Ronin
On the road at Milton Keynes, we pushed back to start, with the sun in our eyes and a manic game pursued. We were off to some back and forth hockey, it started out as quite an equal game, with both teams attacking and defending in equal measure. With some unfortunate calls, both teams were on edge and the game heated up: teams sniping at each other. After a series of short corners awarded against Wootton, Milton Keynes scored in the corner. (1-0 to MK)
The niggles continued and MK started dominating with a bit of help from some indecisive decisions from the umpires and the pressure slowly grew on our players. But Wootton continued to play hard, we attacked and defended. Through pressuring MK Alex stole the ball back and shoots, now it was 1-1. Yet again some of the umpires calls got MK back into the game and they started pilling on the pressure and getting us on the back foot with a spree of short and long corners. In one attack Tim did not hear the shout to leave the ball and didn’t quite get the clearance away, MK intercepted the ball and flicked it into the back of the net 2-1. Wootton needed to respond before half time and we did just that – getting a short corner from some pressure around the D, a shot was blocked and rebounded to Archer, he hit it across the penalty spot to Mark at the back post who passed/shot it to josh who hit it into the goal. At half time the score was 2-2.
Second half started with back and forward play fairly equal by both teams, the niggles continued not helped by some of the decisions. Then MK were ahead 3-2, Darren was moving the ball to restart after MK hit the ball out across our backline, they stole the ball before he had hit it to restart and scored and despite much protesting from all the Wootton players the goal stood. From this point Wootton tried to put the pressure on but the decisions continued to go against us and MK scored the last goal of the match to finish an aggressive game of hockey 4-2. A tough day out in Milton Keynes.
