MATCH REPORT M2 vs Leighton Buzzard 4’s
This past weekend the lads set sail for the distant shores of Leighton Buzzard, though the skies above showed little mercy, the winds far colder than the taste of spring we’d enjoyed earlier in the week. Still, the Wanderers boarded the pitch with spirits high and victory on their minds, determined to keep their winning voyage alive.
It didn’t take long for the first cannon to fire. Just three minutes into the battle, Mitch unleashed a thunderous drag flick that rocketed into the net like a cannonball finding its mark. The early strike filled the crew with confidence and set the tone for the clash ahead.
Not long after, Culverhouse joined the raid, doubling the lead at the 12-minute mark with a fine finish. And just before the halftime bell rang, Mark stepped forward to add another at 30 minutes — though, as it would turn out, he wasn’t nearly finished with his plundering.
The hosts of Leighton Buzzard did manage to sneak one past stand-in keeper Ben in that same minute, slipping the ball through like a sly smuggler in the night. Still, the Wanderers marched into halftime with the upper hand, leading the skirmish 3–1 and eager to keep the wind in their sails.
The second half began much like the first, bold and relentless. At 42 minutes the Wanderers were awarded a flick, and Lee Tw stepped up to the mark, coolly sending the ball into the back of the net as if burying treasure.
Moments later came a short corner, and Mark, clearly hungry for more glory, struck again at 46 minutes to claim his second of the day.
The Buzzard crew, stirred by pride, quickly struck back just a minute later, punishing a brief moment of ease from the Wanderers to make it 5–2.
But Mark had the look of a man chasing legend. At 53 minutes he delivered once more, sealing his hat-trick with another fine strike and cementing his name in the day’s tale.
As the battle wore on, weary legs and fired-up opponents turned the closing minutes into scrappy fighting inside our defensive waters. Leighton Buzzard managed to sneak two more goals aboard before the final whistle rang out across the field.
Yet when the smoke cleared, it was the Wanderers who stood victorious a hard fought 6–4 triumph and three more precious points secured for the journey ahead.
A grand day’s work for the crew indeed.
