MATCH REPORT M2 vs Burford 1’s
The Men’s 2nd XI have demonstrated excellent commitment and enthusiasm throughout the 2025/26 season, culminating in a memorable final fixture away in the Cotswolds. The team approached this trip with a positive attitude, adapting well to challenging travel conditions and making the most of the opportunity to play at a new venue.
A strong start to the match reflected the team’s growing confidence and attacking intent. Alex showed particular composure early on, taking initiative and scoring a well-deserved opening goal. This demonstrated his ability to remain calm under pressure and make effective decisions in key moments. The team, however, also showed areas for development in defensive discipline, as Burford were able to capitalise on a series of short corners to equalise before half time.
During the second half, the team displayed resilience and improved control of the game. Wootton maintained good possession and created several promising chances, highlighting their progress in teamwork and build-up play. Although they fell behind to a contested short corner decision, the players did not lose focus and continued to apply pressure.
Their perseverance was rewarded in the closing stages of the match. Sustained attacking play led to a well-worked equaliser, with Alex once again contributing creatively and Luke finishing confidently under pressure. This final moment exemplified the team’s determination and ability to perform in high-pressure situations.
Individual contributions have been notable throughout the season. Luke has consistently impressed and was recognised by his teammates. But Ian’s support throughout the year were acknowledged by the captain.
Overall, the Men’s 2nd XI have made clear progress this season. They have developed greater cohesion as a team, shown resilience in challenging situations, and demonstrated an encouraging attacking style of play. With continued focus on defensive organisation and consistency, the team is well placed to build on this year’s achievements in the next season.
Man of the Match Ian Marlow
Not all hero’s wear capes, sometimes they wear club bobble hats, and club tracksuit tops. Ian has been to almost every game with his son Josh, supporting the team, running the bench, taking subs and is just a top bloke to have around the group.
