MATCH REPORT Ladies 1 vs Oxford 4
The Ladies 1s had a slightly later home game this week vs Oxford 4s. With manager Tone back but captain Steph missing, we were keen to see what we could do!
It was clear from the start that heads were switched on and we were hungry for the win. Oxford’s keeper made some excellent saves, stopping Wootton from gaining three goals early in the game. However, eventually their keeper became more exposed — Ellie picked up the ball, used her quick legs to beat the defender, and then beat the keeper to slot the ball in for the early advantage.
We had a quick half-time talk from the boss man, full of positivity, before moving swiftly into the second half.
Oxford fumbled quickly after pushback, with Abby picking up the ball within our D and passing it to Ellie. She proceeded to run the length of the pitch, shuffling her way around Oxford’s players. Facing the keeper one-on-one, she calmly spun around with her dancing feet and rocketed the ball into the goal!!!
2–0 up, the Wanderers held strong, making several more attacks toward Oxford’s D. After picking up a short corner, Easty took no prisoners — with a simple hit of the ball, she made it 3–0 to Wootton!
With full time nearing, Oxford put themselves into sixth gear, sending their forwards high and pushing for a goal. It took a Wootton mistake and a GK/CB tangle for them to sneak one through and break the clean sheet.
The final score was 3–1 to Wootton, and after her two beautiful goals, Ellie deservedly won herself MOM.
