This weekend, the Ladies 1s faced Leighton Buzzard in a surprisingly warm and sunny encounter, looking to claim another 6 points in their double-header.
The match started at a slow pace, the wanderers struggling to find their way up the pitch, but quickly warmed up and started to find their way into the opposition D.
Then a scoring spree kicked into action, with three quick goals in succession. The opening goal came from Stabby, who capitalized on a well-timed assist from Easton. Easton made a run down the pitch, executed a reverse tap to round the keeper, and squared it for Stabby to slot home with ease.
Shortly after, Easton was again involved in the action, this time receiving the ball from Steph. Easton spun delivered a perfect shot to the back post, setting up an easy finish to extend the lead.
Young Ellie then made her mark on the match, receiving a through ball and using her pace to tip tap her way around the Leighton Buzzard defenders. She rounded the keeper and finished with a clinical reverse shot into the onion bag to add a third to the Wanderers’ tally.
Leighton Buzzard pulled one back just before halftime, scoring from a slow, looping short corner that found its way into the net. Despite this setback, the Wanderers held a comfortable lead going into the break.
In the second half, Wootton Wanderers experimented with some new attacking plays and short corner routines, looking to add to their lead. However, with a quick turnover, Leighton Buzzard capitalized on an exposed backline, and scoring off the counter-attack.
Despite the brief lapse in concentration, the Wanderers held firm for the remainder of the match, finishing with a 3-2 victory.
