MATCH REPORT Ladies 2 vs Abingdon 2
Wootton Wanderers L2’s fought hard in a challenging first match against Abingdon, who capitalised on early chances to go 2-0 up in the first half. But thanks to the team’s ability to adapt and refocus at the break, the second-half performance was a clear display of resilience, teamwork, and tactical determination.
After regrouping at half-time and having an honest, constructive team talk, the players returned to the pitch with renewed focus and determination. Azaria sparked the comeback with a well-taken goal from a short corner, calmly slotting the ball into the net to make it 2-1. With momentum building, Wootton continued to apply pressure, and it soon paid off again when Jodie reacted quickly in open play to deflect a driven ball past the Abingdon keeper — a well-earned equaliser that lifted the entire team.
Defensively, Wootton were just as impressive. When it looked like Abingdon might reclaim the lead, a moment of brilliance from Bec kept the score level — diving to make a dramatic goal-line save after the ball slipped past keeper Chloe.
A well-earned point, and plenty of positives to take forward into the next fixture. Next week the team take on Milton Keynes for their first match at home!
