MATCH REPORT Ladies 2 vs Banbury 4s
In a challanging double weekend, the Wootton Ladies 2s faced off against Banbury 4s battling the horrendous weather conditions.
Determined for a win, the girls entered the match with a focused mindset. From the outset, Wootton dominated possession, effectively exploring Banbury’s weaknesses and advancing up the pitch.
The midfielders and forwards showcased brilliant link-up play creating numerous opportunities. Their persistence paid off when a shot rebounded of the post, landing perfectly for Jess who swiftly slapped the ball home, ensuring it went in the goal to give the girls a 1-0 lead.
Riding high on this momentum, Wootton continued to exhibit impressive teamwork, both in defence and attack. The defence was solid with precise marking that left Banbury struggling to find a way through.
Wanderers second goal came from Rachael finding Sally perfectly positioned to hold up the ball until support flurried into the 23, Sally then played a beautiful through ball for Kathryn to run on to, perfectly slotting it past the keeper, doubling the lead to 2-0. As the first half came to a close, Wootton had a comfortable advantage.
The second half begun with the same energy as the girls pushed for more. However, Banbury increased their intensity as the half progressed, making it more challanging for Wootton.
Banbury managed to capitalise on a loose ball and redeemed themselves with a goal to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
Despite the pressure, the team kept their heads high and battled hard, generating a flurry on penalty corners but were unlucky not to convert the opportunities into goals.
Wootton’s defence, led by keeper Chloe remained resolute, with some exceptional saves keeping Banbury at bay.
As the weather worsened, the match continued towards its conclusion. When the final whistle blew, Wootton emerged victorious with a 2-1 win, maintaining their unbeaten streak.
Player of the match was awarded to Winnie for her outstanding performance and remarkable defensive work throughout the game.
After a long weekend it was time for the girls to wrap up warm and dry off ready for next week away at Aylesbury.
