The ladies 2s entered the match against Aylesbury riding a wave of confidence after an impressive string of performances. The girls knew it would be challenging with no subs , but were willing to put their all in.
The game commenced with Wanderers applying immediate pressure and effectively shutting down Aylesbury ‘s passing game. However a fortunate break for Aylesbury resulted in a powerful strike that found the backboard, giving them an early lead.
Despite the setback, Wootton remained determined and fought hard to regain their footing. Unfortunately before the could fully recover, Aylesbury struck again, putting Wanderers 2-0 down. Refusing to let their spirit wane, Wootton regrouped and began to mount crucial attacks. Their efforts paid off when Carmen drove skill fully towards the goal delivering a perfect cross to Jess. Jess then pushed the ball towards the far post but ended up slotting it into the bottom corner to reduce the deficit to 2-1 just before half time.
In the second half, Wanderers returned with renewed intensity, eager to maintain their unbeaten streak. Their defence tightened, showcasing excellent man-marking and remarkable goal line clearances that kept Aylesbury at bay. Chloe’s crucial saves further bolstered Wootton’s resolve as they fought hard to keep the game within reach.
The Wanderers persistence bore fruit when the ball started from a 16, to the midfield, then to Carmen who drove the ball down to the 23, crossing it to Sally just outside the D. Sally expertly beat her defender and found Fran unmarked infront of goal who calmly slotted the ball into the backboard levelling the score.
The final ten minutes of the match were fiercely contested, with both teams eagerly searching for the winner. Despite the intense pressure, Wanderers held strong, and the match concluded with the points being shared at 2-2.
Player of the match was awarded to Jess for her phenomenal performance down the wing, showcasing impressive skills in beating defenders. Additionally, a special mention goes to Azaria for her debut for Wootton Wanderers!
