On a cold Saturday morning, the Ladies 2s faces off against Banbury 3s under heavy rain, but the weather did little to dampen the spirits of Wanderers. A solid warm-up energised the girls, setting the tone for a fiery encounter.
From the outset, Wanderers looked strong, showcasing their dominance. A brilliant sister link up resulted in Luce netting the first goal of the game, giving wanderers a 1-0 lead. The momentum continued as a well executed penalty corner saw Amie strike the ball, which was helped over the line by a defender, extending the lead to 2-0.
However, Banbury swiftly struck back with a counter attack, narrowing the gap to 2-1 and briefly disrupting the Wanderers rhythm. Unfazed, the girls railed and responded effectively; Sarah smashed the ball from the penalty spot, restoring the advantage with a 3-1 lead. Wanderers received a flick against them but Keeper Chloe pulled off a magnificent save to keep the girls safe from conceding.
The Half time team-talk ignited motivation and aspiration for more from the mighty Wanderers. The second half mirrored the first, with Amie finding the net early on, further extending the scoreline. Another drilled penalty corner routine between Kat & Amie saw Amie find the backboard again making it 5-1.
Wootton’s performance continued to flourish and it was Jess’ turn to join in the scoring frenzy. She struck a perfect tomahawk that found the bottom corner bringing the score to 6-1. Finally, Aime executed a reverse sweep, finding the net for one last time to finalise the score at an impressive 7-1.
An outstanding performance from the entire team saw Wootton emerge as the victors.
