MATCH REPORT Ladies 2 vs Oxford 6
In the final game of the season, Ladies 2s faced off against Oxford 6. With a strong squad assembled, the team was ready to give it their all.
However the start of the match saw Wootton concede an early goal, quickly followed by another leaving them 2-0 down. Despite the challenging start the girls fought relentlessly, but something seemed amiss as the first half came a close with the score at 3-0 in favour of Oxford.
During the half time team talk, the focus shifted to having fun and rediscovering our rhythm. The second half began with renewed energy as Wootton found their feet and began to raise their confidence. Notably, Oxford had removed their keeper, leaving them with 11 players on pitch. The tactical shift allowed Wanderers to capitalise on the opportunity.
Rachael struck a perfect shot that rolled into the empty goal, igniting the spirits of the team. Just a minute later, Rachael found the back of the net again, with a stroke of luck as the ball slipped across the goaline at the last moment. Both teams continued to battle fiercely and Wootton made significant progress , demonstrating their determination to turn the tide.
In the dying moments of the game, the girls were awarded a penalty corner. With no goalkeeper to block their shots, they seized the chance. With no hesitation, Emily slapped the ball into the bottom corner to level the score to 3-3.
As the clock wound down, the focus shifted to defence. With eveyone behind the ball, the girls stood firm against Oxfords final
attempts to take the lead.
The match came to an end with a thrilling 3-3 draw.
Girl of the game was split amongst 3 , Ellen, Azaria and Emily for their grit and determination in igniting a fuelling comeback.
This draw confirmed the Ladies 2s finished 4th in a challanging leauge making significant improvements from last season.
