MATCH REPORT Ladies 1 vs Oxford Hawks 4
This Saturday the L1s faced second in the league, Oxford hawks, in their second to last away day of the season. With the weather starting to warm up the wanderers have their sights set on keeping their place in the top half of the league table after last year’s promotion.
Hawks started the game with a high press and good energy levels, with some of their younger players pressuring our transfers and keeping our play deep within our half. Using this pressure they quickly got the first goal of the game through some calm attacks at goal.
The wanderers started to press their way up the pitch with some quick runs, and gained a key short corner in the attacking end. Receiving the shot off the keeper Steph kept her cool, dilly dallying around the top of the D and finishing with a solid tomohawk and looping the keeper to hit the onion bag! Giving us the leveller before half time.
With a lot of warm faces at half time we aimed to focus on shorter passes, the pitch was slow and energy was diminishing so we knew it was key to make the ball do the work.
Much like the first half hawks came out with high energy levels, pushing the wanderers back into their own half.
Hawks started to make some quick breaks as well, using their youth to run pitch length and put pressure on Jade and her defenders, using this to their advantage they snuck a second goal in the back post to give themselves the lead again.
The game started to heat up, and tensions began to rise from both sides. But hawks started to tire and Wootton kept their defence solid stopping their quick plays. CB Steph sent a ball through to our young legs Ellie, who crossed the ball to Easty on the P spot, Easty ducked and weaved her way around the keeper to get our second goal of the game and tie us up again with the home side.
With not long left on the clock a few warnings were handed out and play became slower, Wootton held their own and brought the game to a close taking away the 1 point draw.
