MATCH REPORT Ladies 1 vs Sonning
This week the ladies 1s were due to play two games on the trot, but after some chilling temperatures and late calls they saved their energy for a rearranged Sunday fixture against Sonning L2s.
The game played out similarly to the week before, we displayed good spells of play but were facing an adverse style of argy-bargy hockey. The ladies at the back all held strong and did well to stop Sonning’s first, second, and third attacks but the oppo were persistent and managed to bag themselves 2 goals after multiple rebound shots.
After a quick chat amongst ourselves and a reminder to the umpires that hockey is a non-contact sport we restarted the game and came out the blocks stronger.
It was clear in the second half that the wanderers were the stronger team, showing some consistent strong passing hockey. They played well out the back and down the wings keeping their patience and letting Sonning’s cracks play to our advantage. Unfortunately as per the Reading game we couldn’t capitalise up top and Sonning gained the 3 points at the end of the day.
Although a hard fought loss, the ladies kept their heads up, and celebrated the little wins with some cake and a sing song for manager T-Swizzles birthday!!
