MATCH REPORT Ladies 1 vs Abingdon 1
The ladies 1s have had a nice long break after some frosty weather and Christmas celebrations, but were back in action this weekend against Reading at home.
Our away fixture at reading was a close and high paced game so the ladies knew they would have to shake off their Christmas dinners quickly if we were to produce the same performance.
During the first 15 minutes of the game Wootton had the upper hand, the forwards made some strong attacks but readings keeper kept her net empty. As the game went on we started to lose our shape and the cracks started to show, with the opposition making some breaks through towards goal. During a quick attack and a scramble at the back, Jade couldn’t quite get her leg to the ball and it took a deflection into the net giving reading the 1-0 advantage. The attitude turned and Woottons heads dropped which allowed Reading to send another attack down the pitch, with the player left to shoot she slotted a tomohawk into the left post and reading were now up 2-0.
As the half time whistle blew the team regrouped, and focused on some key changes to make going into the second half.
The next 33 minutes of play were fairly balanced, both teams attacked and defended well and both keepers reacted when called upon. With no change in score the wanderers upped their energy, pushing hard for the last two minutes of the game, but they couldn’t change the result and the end of the game gave Reading a 2-0 win.
MOM – Liv Mason for her constant hard work all over the pitch.
