MATCH REPORT M2 v Burford 1’s
Men’s 2s hosted new club Burford for the first time at the High School, on a gorgeous autumnal day.
Wanderers got off to a flying start with a few short corners resulting in Lee Th mopping one up into the back of the goal, this was followed shortly after when Alex B took control of another short corner took the ball on his reverse side and smashed the ball home. This however seemed to anger Burford who came back at Wootton strongly with 2 goals of there own before have time, 2-2 at half time.
Injured skipper Mark, gave the team a bit of a dressing down at half time for throwing away a 2 goal lead and not playing the hockey we have been in recent weeks. This must have inspired vice captain Darren, who drove into the “D” and struck a rising drive into the goal to restore our lead. However, Burford didn’t read the script and equalised. The game then became tense with both sides probing for that winner, and with just 5 minutes remaining Wootton got another short corner, which Alex C scrambled home for what proved the winner. 4-3
Man of the Match Darren Thorpe
Excellent midfield performance, topped off with a great strike.
