MATCH REPORT M2 v Buckingham 2’s
To get their season underway, Wootton Wanderers 2 took on Buckingham 2 in what turned out to be a game of two halves…
The first half was a lively and even contest, with both sides battling hard in midfield. Wootton’s attacking flair shone through as Greg and Liam both found the net with well-taken goals from open play. At half time, the score sat at a deserved 2–2, and Wanderers went in feeling very much in the game.
The second half, however, told a different story. While Wootton’s legs began to tire, Buckingham’s short-corner routine went into overdrive. One after another, the visitors struck from set pieces, punishing Wootton’s tiring defence. By the final whistle, the scoreline had stretched to 2–6 — perhaps a little harsh on Wanderers, who had played some great hockey and matched Buckingham in open play.
Despite the result, the game was enjoyable and competitive throughout, with plenty of positives to take forward. Goals, teamwork, and good spirits made it a match worth remembering — and maybe a reminder that we’ll be practising short-corner defence at training next week!
Man of the Match Joe Warne
Great performance by Joe on his WWHC debut, running all game in midfield or wherever he was deployed during the game.
